Description
Back in 1783, the Montgolfier brothers sent the first balloon into the sky above Annonay, and the whole of France looked up in wonder. More than two centuries later, the children of the town have their own version of the story: that on Christmas Eve, Santa borrows a balloon of the very same design and drifts over the hills of the Ardèche, dropping parcels by tiny parachutes onto every doorstep. On clear nights, they say, you can see the glow of the burner among the stars.
This box brings that whimsical flight to your shelf. Santa rides on a Montgolfier hot-air balloon, a nod to French invention and adventure that makes it a wonderful gift for a pilot, an engineer, a history lover or anyone who dreams of floating above the world. Hang garland nearby or set it high on a bookshelf, and Santa will seem to be making his rounds from the sky all season long. Aviation buffs will love the nod to the Montgolfiers.
