Description
Carolers came down the Rue des Tilleuls every evening in the week before Christmas, lanterns bobbing, scarves wound to their noses. And every evening a black cat was waiting for them on the window seat of number twelve, framed by garland and the warm glow of a lamp. She pretended to be supremely bored. But her tail, swaying in perfect time with “Il est né le divin enfant,” gave her away. The carolers began to save a verse just for her, and by Christmas Eve she had her own small audience on the pavement.
This box captures that black cat sitting at a window decorated for Christmas, a scene with the hush of a snowy evening. It suits a sill where a real cat might keep it company, a mantel among stockings, or a nightstand where it can glow beside a reading lamp. Under its hinged lid, there is space for a tiny bell or a pet’s name tag. Anyone who has ever shared a snowy evening with a cat on the windowsill will recognise the scene immediately, and smile.
Inside and out
- A black cat seated beside a window dressed for Christmas
- Festive window decorations frame the feline figure
- Hinged lid opening to a small interior
- Limoges porcelain, decorated by a French painter’s hand
A wonderful present for cat lovers, especially those whose own black cat runs the household. It looks particularly fine beside a candle on a long winter night.
