Description
December the first, and Maman declares it is time. Out come the secateurs, the wire and the old wicker basket, and off the family goes into the woods behind the house to gather evergreen boughs and sprigs of glossy holly, red berries bright against the frost. Back in the warm kitchen, with cocoa on the stove, they weave it all into a wreath and finish it with a ribbon from the drawer where the good ribbons are kept. Then, at last, it goes up on the front door.
This box holds that homemade magic. A Christmas wreath is painted in rich seasonal colour, adorned with holly and wrapped with a golden ribbon. Its round, shallow shape is lovely on a coffee table, beside an Advent candle or among the cards on a mantelpiece. It makes a warm gift for a neighbour, a hostess, a teacher or anyone who loves the rituals of decorating for Christmas.
