Description
Minou had claimed the blue armchair the day she arrived, and no one in the household had ever dared to argue. She slept there through summer storms and winter fires, curled tight on the faded cushion with its pattern of cornflowers, opening one eye only when the fridge door creaked or a sardine tin was opened.
When Minou grew old and grey around the whiskers, her owner went looking for something to remember her by and found this little cat resting on a blue floral oval, as content as though it had been painted from life. It sits now on the side table right beside that very armchair, where the afternoon sun still lands in a warm square. Lift the lid and there is a petite compartment inside, just right for an old collar tag or a single whisker saved for luck. Visitors sometimes reach out to stroke it before realizing their mistake, and then laugh and stroke it anyway.
