Nobody ever accused Gaston the frog of being in a hurry. While his cousins leapt from pad to pad, he preferred to travel in style, and so one dewy morning he saddled up Hortense, the most dignified snail in the kitchen garden, and set off to visit his aunt on the far side of the lettuce bed. The journey took four days. Gaston insisted it was the best trip of his life, full of sunrises, conversations with beetles and long naps beneath the rhubarb leaves.
