Description
Out past the orchard, where the wind rattles the last apples from the branches, three unlikely friends meet every October evening. The scarecrow tells tall tales about crows, the pumpkin laughs so hard its candle flickers, and the ghost, who is rather shy, peeks over the fence rails to listen. By the time the harvest moon rises, they have usually agreed that this is the finest season of all.
The scene makes a playful centerpiece for a Halloween mantel or a harvest table set with gourds and candles. It is a lovely surprise for the grandchild who is counting down to trick-or-treating, or for the friend who decorates for fall the moment September ends. Leave it on a hall table where visitors can find it, and watch them smile at the little trio gathered by their country fence. Even the crows, it is said, have stopped arguing with the scarecrow about it.
