Description
Ice had crept in from the edges of the lake overnight, leaving a dark, glossy circle of open water in the middle. Santa Duck surveyed it with approval. A Christmas swim, he announced, was a tradition worth keeping. The little duckling hesitated at the edge, peeped once, then plunged in after him, paddling furiously to keep that red cap in sight. Snow drifted down on the reeds, and from the bank a family of geese honked their applause for the bravest little swimmer on the lake.
This box shows the two of them out on the water together, a Santa duck with a baby duck at his side. It is a small, cheerful piece that fits into the palm of a hand and looks charming on a windowsill overlooking a winter garden, or nestled among pine cones on a coffee table. It makes a lovely gift for a parent and child who share a holiday ritual of their own. Small as it is, the scene has real warmth, and it rewards anyone who stops to notice the tiny duckling working so hard to keep up with its leader.
