Description
High in the Alps, where the snow lies deep even in June, the monks of the Great Saint Bernard Pass once kept dogs that could find a lost traveler buried in a drift. The legends say they carried little barrels around their necks, though the monks always insisted that was mostly a painter’s invention. What was never invented was their courage, nor their extraordinary gentleness with anyone in need. Travelers who owed their lives to those dogs spoke of them for the rest of their days.
Every Saint Bernard seems to carry that heritage in its soulful eyes. This box is painted with exceptional detail: the broad head, the rich russet and white coat, the kind, droopy expression that makes anyone want to give it a hug. It opens to a small compartment for trinkets, a collar tag or a tuft of fur saved as a memory. It suits a shelf, a side table or a display case, and it brings warmth to any room. For families who have loved one of these gentle giants, it is a meaningful gift, and for those saying goodbye, a tender memorial to a loyal friend.
