Description
It is the second week of Advent, and the attic smells of cedar and dust. Maman climbs down the ladder with a battered cardboard box held against her hip. Inside, wrapped in yellowing tissue, are the treasures: a glass bird with a feather tail, a felt angel with one wing slightly crooked, and a little porcelain Christmas tree that has stood on the mantel every December since before the children were born. Unwrapping it is how the season officially begins.
This vintage tree is made for that kind of tradition. Give it to a young couple decorating their first home together, to a grandchild who has always admired your holiday shelf, or to a collector of Christmas miniatures. It also makes a lovely stocking surprise, small enough to tuck into the toe. Display it on a mantel beside candles and greenery, or on a side table near the real tree, where its colors can glow in the lights.
