Description
Late August in Roussillon, and the cliffs of ochre are on fire. As the sun lowers, the rock glows red, then orange, then a deep coral that seems almost impossible, while visitors gather on the path to watch the colors change. A painter sets up her easel at the edge of the trail and works quickly, chasing the light before it fades. By the time the first stars appear, she has captured it, just barely. Later, in her studio, she will add a scattering of flowers to the foreground, small bright notes against all that heat.
This egg glows with that same fiery warmth, its striking red-orange finish set off by delicate floral embellishments. It is a bold choice for someone who loves color, a festive Easter gift for a family that prefers vivid to pastel, or a bright counterpoint in a collection of more traditional eggs. On a white mantel, a dark wood sideboard or a bookshelf, it draws the eye immediately. Inside, it holds small treasures, a ring or a pair of earrings perhaps. A cluster of eggs in different shades, with this one at the center, makes a joyful display.
