Description
Spring rain had drummed on the hutch roof all afternoon, and the two youngest rabbits of the garden refused to go inside. Instead they claimed the plumpest carrot in the row, pressed their ears together and watched the drops slide off the lettuce leaves. Neither one would take the first bite, because that would mean the game was over. Eventually, of course, hunger won, and they nibbled from opposite ends until their noses nearly met in the middle.
Picture this pair on a sunny kitchen windowsill, or tucked beside the mirror of a grandmother who keeps a garden of her own. It is the sort of present that says I thought of you without any fuss: an Easter basket surprise, a birthday nudge for a bunny devotee, or a thank-you for the neighbour who shares her harvest every summer. Bunny collectors will spot the tender details at once: the way one rabbit leans into the other, the curl of a paw, the feathery green top of the carrot fanning out behind them like a little crown.
