Description
Between Gordes and the abbey of Sénanque, the road winds through fields of lavender so blue they almost seem to hum, and in July the air is thick with bees and the scent of warm resin from the pines. Cyclists stop at every bend; nobody minds the delay.
Isabelle drove that road every summer for twenty years, a notebook on the passenger seat in which she pressed a single sprig from each visit, dated in pencil.
