Description
Rain on the roof of a pub in Dingle, a fiddle tuning in the corner, and Nora’s uncle leaning across the table with a conspiratorial look. “Did I ever tell you,” he says, “about the hat I found by the holy well?” Everyone groans. Of course he has told them. He tells them every March.
But they let him, because the story is better each year. Now the hat had a buckle of real gold. Now the clover in its band had a fifth leaf, which he gave away to a girl from Cork. Nobody believes a word, and nobody would stop him for the world. This merry hat, with its clover you can lift out and hold, is a perfect gift for the storyteller in your family, an Irish friend abroad, or a March birthday. It looks just right on a bar cart, a bookshelf or a windowsill beside a pint glass of shamrocks, where the storyteller can point to it as proof.
