Description
Rain taps against the window of a narrow flat in Rennes. On the rug, a spaniel snores; on the sofa, his owner is three chapters from the end of a mystery and refuses to stop for dinner. Every so often the dog sighs, as if to say he has already guessed the culprit and is simply too polite to spoil it for her. When she finally closes the book, he thumps his tail twice, which she takes as applause, and they share a late supper of toast.
This charming box imagines two dogs as faithful bookends, holding up a cheerful row of spines in bright reds, blues and greens. It is made for a reading nook, a classroom shelf or the desk of a librarian. Offer it to a book-club friend, a retiring teacher, or a dog lover who keeps a towering stack beside the bed.
