Description
Nobody spoke. It was barely light on Christmas morning, and the three children had crept downstairs early to look at their stockings, only to stop in front of the big window instead. There, in the middle of the snowy garden, beside the frozen birdbath, stood a deer. Snowflakes drifted down around it and settled on its back. It lifted its head, ears turning, and looked straight at the house.
For one long, breathless minute it watched them, and they watched it, and even the youngest forgot about presents. Then it turned, stepped lightly over the hedge and vanished into the white woods as though it had never been there at all. This deer in falling snow, warmed with gold accents, holds that magical stillness. Keep it in mind for a nature lover, a family that celebrates Christmas in the countryside, or a collector of winter scenes. Display it on a mantel among pine cones and candles, or on a windowsill where real snow can fall behind it.
