Description
Hidden somewhere among the rose bushes: that was the only clue. Every Easter, Grand-mère Hortense tucked a single painted egg into her rose garden, and every Easter the cousins hunted for it with a seriousness usually reserved for treasure maps. They searched under the bench, inside the watering can, behind the sundial. Knees got muddy and arguments broke out, and the dog dug up an entire flower bed in his enthusiasm.
One year it was little Pauline, the youngest of them all, who found it, tucked in the crook of an old climbing rose: an egg covered in roses painted in shades of blue. She kept it on her windowsill for the whole year and still talks about it now. This blue egg with roses carries that springtime magic. It is a lovely gift for Easter, a spring birthday, a gardener who grows prize roses, or a collector of decorative eggs. Set it on a dressing table, in a curio cabinet or on a windowsill where the morning light falls across its blooms.
