Description
The game has rules, though only the dog knows them. Throw, fetch, drop the ball exactly one inch beyond reach, wait. Repeat until dusk. In a farmhouse outside Tours, Bruno the black Labrador has played this game with three generations of children, and at the end of each summer evening he flops on the cool tiles, ball tucked under his chin, guarding it in his sleep. Even dreaming, his paws twitch, still chasing that last long throw across the orchard.
Here is that well-earned rest in porcelain. A black Lab lies relaxed beside his ball, his dark coat painted with a soft sheen, and the box opens to a petite interior for small treasures. It makes a heartfelt gift for someone who lives with a ball-obsessed retriever, and a fine way to keep a dog tag, a whistle or a tuft of fur after a beloved pet has gone. The ball adds a bright note of color against all that dark fur, and his relaxed sprawl says the game will resume the moment anyone so much as glances at the garden door.
