Description
Behind the old manor near Tours there is a walled garden where roses climb a blue-painted trellis. In May the lattice almost disappears beneath pink blooms, and the head gardener insists, every year, that this is the finest week of all. Visitors wander through slowly, hands behind their backs, pausing to breathe in the scent and admire the pattern of petals against painted wood. By June the petals begin to fall, carpeting the gravel paths in pink, and the gardener sweeps them reluctantly, already counting the months until next spring.
This octagonal box borrows that trellis-and-rose charm, its bold blue criss-cross design scattered with pink flowers. Its many faceted sides catch light from every angle, so it looks lovely on a vanity tray or among perfume bottles. Give it to a friend who loves blue-and-white china, to a mother for her birthday, or to anyone who could use a pretty home for a favorite ring. It also makes a thoughtful thank-you for a hostess whose garden you have long admired, a little piece of her favorite season to keep indoors.

It looks especially charming beside a vase of fresh pink roses. Every time the lid is lifted, the garden seems to bloom again.
