A Little Collection

Wine & Champagne Limoges Boxes

Raise a glass to this collection. Here you'll find Limoges boxes for every kind of wine lover: crates and barrels from the cellar, wine lists and table cellars from the dining room, a bottle tucked into a picnic basket, and plenty of champagne, chilling on ice and ready for New Year's Eve, a wedding toast or any good news worth celebrating.

A Limoges box is a small porcelain box with a hinged lid, made in and around Limoges, France, and painted by hand. Wine and France have always gone together, so these little bottles and buckets feel right at home in porcelain, with every label, cork and bunch of grapes picked out by the brush.

They make lovely gifts for a host, a collector of fine wines, a newly engaged couple, or a friend with a big milestone to toast. Unlike the real bottle, a porcelain one never runs dry, so the celebration stays on the shelf long after the last glass has been poured.

Bordeaux wine crate with a bottle and corkscrew

Bordeaux Wine Crate Limoges Box by Rochard

The crate arrived on a rainy Tuesday, stamped Bordeaux in big black letters, and nobody in the house could think about anything else. Monsieur pulled out the bottle, admired the label, found the corkscrew, and then put everything back. Not tonight, he said. Some bottles deserve a better reason than Tuesday.

Globe bar opening to reveal wine glasses

Globe Bar with Wine Glasses Porcelain Limoges Box

Spin the globe in Grandpapa's study and it stops, as it always does, somewhere very far away. Then lift the top half and the whole world opens to reveal a row of glasses. Where shall we travel tonight, he asks. Usually the answer is the armchair by the fire, with a good bottle and a better story.

Wine list bound like a small book

Sommelier Wine List Porcelain Limoges Box

The sommelier glides over and opens the wine list with a little bow. Page after page of reds, whites, and a few names nobody at the table can pronounce. Everyone pretends to study it seriously. In the end, they ask him to choose, which is exactly what he was hoping for all along.

Champagne bottle dressed in a tuxedo

Champagne Bottle in Tuxedo Porcelain Limoges Box

He was invited to the gala and refused to show up in his everyday label. So the champagne put on his finest tuxedo, straightened his bow tie, and arrived fashionably late. Heads turned. Glasses lifted. By midnight he was the life of the party, and he never once lost his cool.

Porcelain table wine cellar

Rochard Cave de Table, Porcelain Wine Cellar Limoges Piece

In a farmhouse kitchen in the countryside, the good bottles live in a little cave de table at the end of the long wooden table. Every Sunday, someone chooses one. There is always a debate. There is always a winner. And there is always someone who says, next week, it is my turn.

Wine bottle tucked into a woven basket

Wine Bottle in a Basket Limoges Box

Pack the basket, grab a blanket, and follow the path down to the river. A loaf of bread, a wedge of cheese, and this bottle tucked in at an angle so it will not tip. The afternoon has no plans at all, and that is the whole idea of a lazy country lunch.

Bunch of grapes with a butterfly resting on it

Rochard Grape Cluster Limoges Box with Butterfly

The harvesters are three rows away, laughing and filling their baskets, but this bunch of grapes has a visitor. A butterfly has landed on top and seems in no hurry to leave. The vintner sees it and waves the pickers on. That one, he says, can wait until tomorrow.

Box decorated with a cognac theme

Cognac Liqueur Themed Porcelain Limoges Box

Dinner is over, the candles are low, and the conversation has turned to old stories. Someone brings out the cognac. It is poured slowly, swirled slowly, and sipped even more slowly, because the best part of the evening is the part where nobody is in a hurry to go home.

Bearded Father Time figure

Father Time Rochard Porcelain Limoges Box

Father Time has had a very long year. Every December he counts down the last few days, checks his calendar twice, and prepares to hand everything over to someone younger. Then, at the stroke of midnight, he takes a well-earned seat, pours himself a tiny glass of something bubbly, and finally rests.

Paris by Night gift bag holding a champagne bottle

Rochard Paris by Night Gift Bag Limoges Box with Champagne Bottle

It is ten minutes to midnight on the Pont Neuf. The Eiffel Tower is about to sparkle, and in the gift bag there is a bottle waiting for exactly this moment. A crowd gathers along the railing. The countdown begins. Somewhere on the quay below, a cork flies toward the Seine.

Small table set for two with yellow roses and champagne

Table for Two Limoges Box with Yellow Roses and Champagne

He called the restaurant a month ahead and asked for the little table by the window. Yellow roses, because she once said they were her favorite. Champagne, ribbon and all, waiting at the center. Now he just has to remember the speech he practiced, and stop checking his pocket every thirty seconds.

Caviar and champagne bucket on a gold tray

Rochard Caviar and Champagne Bucket on Gold Tray Limoges Box

The butler enters with the gold tray held high: caviar on one side, champagne chilling on the other. The guests applaud. The host pretends this happens every evening. In truth, it happens once a year, on New Year's Eve, and everyone in the house has been looking forward to it since February.
