Description
First chair, first tracks. The lift creaks upward through the pines, breath clouds in the air, and as the summit comes into view the whole valley glitters under new snow. Down in Chamonix the cafés are still shuttered, but up here the day has begun. A push, a lean, the hiss of edges, and for one long run nothing exists except the mountain and the cold bright wind. Then it is time for hot chocolate, wool socks drying by the stove, and long arguments about which run was best.
Skiers will love this slim piece, whether they carve black runs or prefer the gentle blues and a long lunch on the terrace. Give it to a friend before a big ski trip, as a memento afterward, or to a family that owns a cabin in the mountains. It looks wonderful on a chalet mantel, beside a stack of trail maps, or on a desk as a daydream of the next winter holiday.
