Description
Before the sleigh is loaded and the reindeer harnessed, Santa always takes one quiet walk into the forest. Snow falls in fat, soft flakes. One by one, the woodland creatures creep out from the trees to greet him, crowding around the hem of his red coat, pressing their noses into his mittened hands. He has a kind word for each of them, a scratch behind the ears, and a promise of treats when he returns. They watch until his lantern is only a speck.
This is a Santa for animal lovers, a reminder that the spirit of the season extends to every creature, great and small. The scene makes a lovely gift for a veterinarian, a wildlife rescuer, a nature-loving child or a grandmother who feeds every bird in the garden. Set it among evergreen branches on a mantel, or on a side table near the window, where you might spot real visitors in the snow outside.
