Description
On the first warm morning of April, the shepherd’s daughter carries a bottle of milk across the yard to the smallest pen. Inside, curled on fresh straw, is the lamb born just before dawn, still wobbly on its legs, its fleece the color of new cream. It lifts its head at the sound of her footsteps and bleats, and she kneels in the straw, already in love.
This little lamb in its pen carries all the hope and tenderness of springtime. It is a natural gift for a christening or a new baby, an Easter basket surprise, or a present for anyone who grew up with sheep in the meadow. On a nursery shelf it keeps quiet watch over a first tooth or a hospital bracelet, and on a kitchen dresser it brings a breath of the countryside indoors.
