Description
On the first of May, the pavements of Paris are lined with little tables, each one heaped with bunches of muguet tied in ribbon. The scent drifts along the boulevards, sweet and green. Vendors call out to passersby, and nearly everyone stops, because it is bad manners to go through May Day without bringing someone a sprig of luck.
Héloïse buys three bunches: one for her mother, one for the elderly neighbor who waters everyone’s geraniums, and one for herself, which she pins to her coat. On the métro, a ladybug crawls out of the leaves and settles on her sleeve. A child opposite points, delighted, and declares it a double portion of good fortune. This little purse captures all of that: the nodding white bells, the bright red beetles, the feeling that something good is on its way. It suits a dressing table, a jewelry tray or a bedside, and makes a delightful gift for a May birthday or a friend who needs encouragement.
