Description
Mist lies low over the forest of Chantilly, and somewhere among the oaks a horn sounds, long and round and echoing. Riders gather in the clearing, horses stamp and blow, hounds circle with impatient tails, and the morning begins with a note that has called people together across the French countryside for generations. Old men in the village still claim they can tell who is playing simply by the way the sound carries over the fields.
This box takes the shape of that traditional hunting horn, its curving form rendered in fine painted detail. Lift the hinged lid and there is room for a small keepsake: a cufflink, a hunt pin, a tiny folded photograph of a favorite horse. It suits the country gentleman, the horsewoman, a musician who plays the French horn, or anyone whose heart belongs to fields and woodland. It looks especially handsome on a desk of polished wood.
A closer look
- Shaped as a traditional hunting horn
- Hinged lid opens to a space for a small keepsake
- Fine painted detailing on French porcelain
- A classic country motif for a study or tack room
- French porcelain from Limoges, every curve of the horn traced by brush
Handsome in a curio cabinet beside riding trophies and old sporting prints. A thoughtful gift for a hunt member, an equestrian or a horn player. It may well become the piece he reaches for first when telling stories of the field.
