Description
Ten, nine, eight. The crowd on the riverbank counted down together, breath clouding in the cold, while someone’s grandfather tried and failed to open a bottle of crémant before midnight. Three, two, one. Fireworks bloomed over the water, strangers embraced, and the bottle finally popped, a few seconds late and to great applause. Somebody started singing, somebody else forgot the words, and the whole riverbank laughed together as the new year began in earnest.
This box celebrates the Happy New Year 2014, making it a meaningful keepsake for anyone whose story turned a page that year. Perhaps it was a wedding, a graduation, the birth of a child, or a move to a new city. Give it to mark that anniversary, or add it to a collection of dated pieces that trace the passing years. On a dressing table or a curio shelf it will always recall a particular midnight and the hopes that came with it. For a couple, it can become the start of a tradition: one dated piece for every year spent together, lined up along a mantel.
