Description
Chef Bertrand had one rule above all others: the fish must have been caught that morning, or it did not appear on the menu. Every day he walked down to the harbor at dawn in his white jacket, chose the catch himself after much sniffing and frowning, and chalked the day’s offerings on the slate by the door in his looping, impatient hand.
Regulars swore they could tell the hour of the catch by the taste. Tourists who asked for anything not on the slate received a long, sorrowful look and a glass of something cold on the house. This porcelain chef, proudly holding his fish menu, could have stepped right out of that little bistro. It makes a charming gift for a professional chef, a home cook who loves French cuisine, or a culinary student finishing their training. Inside there’s room to hide a keepsake, perhaps a lucky coin from a first restaurant’s opening night.
