Description

Saturday mornings at the National Gallery of Art in Washington were Grace’s favourite part of the week. Her mother took her there every month, and every month she walked straight past the grand portraits and the marble statues to stand in front of one painting: a little girl in a blue dress, holding a watering can in a garden full of flowers. Grace was nine. She was certain the girl in the painting was her best friend, and that one day they would meet.

Renoir’s tender painting rests here on a tall porcelain easel, its soft blues and garden greens brought into miniature. The original belongs to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and this version is perfect for a bookshelf, a studio windowsill or a desk where creative work gets done. It makes a lovely present for a painter, an art history student, a retiring art teacher, or a friend who never misses a museum visit. Tuck a ring or a small keepsake inside, and the easel becomes a treasure box as well as a tribute.
