Description
The first sound in the apartment on Rue Cler is always the same: the gurgle and hiss of the coffee maker on the counter, followed by the clink of a single cup. Before the shutters are open, before the radio is on, there is coffee. Everything else in the day can wait at least ten minutes. The neighbours set their clocks by that gurgle, and the cat comes running for the drop of milk that always follows.
For the friend who cannot form a sentence before that first sip, this little brewer makes a perfect birthday or housewarming present. The cup lifts off, so it can sit beside the machine or be set back in place. Display it on a kitchen shelf near the real coffee tin, or on an office desk where the morning ritual happens all over again. The R on the little cup invites a guess or two. Perhaps it stands for Rochard, perhaps for a name in the family, perhaps for the word réveil, waking up. Either way, it turns an everyday ritual into a delightful porcelain miniature that brightens any kitchen.
