Description
Morning, and the world outside has turned white overnight. The children are in the garden before breakfast, still in their pyjamas under their coats, rolling snow into great lumpy balls. By lunchtime he is finished: a little snowman with a scarf, two pebble eyes and the very best smile they could manage. All afternoon he watches the sledges fly down the hill and listens to the bells of the village church, and when night falls, he keeps guard until the stars come out.
