Description
Sunlight slid across the parquet in long gold stripes, and Margot, nine months old and very serious, was determined to catch one. She crawled from one side of her playpen to the other, pausing only to fling a stuffed rabbit over the rail and laugh at the soft thump it made. Each time someone returned the rabbit, she threw it straight back out again, delighted with the game she had invented.
Her parents took turns pretending to work while really watching her. This little porcelain playpen holds that ordinary, golden hour of early parenthood. Save it for a baby shower or a first birthday, and grandparents tend to treasure it most of all. Settle it on a nursery dresser near the changing table, or on a bookcase between board books, where it can keep company with photographs from those first months and the tiny knitted booties nobody can bear to give away.
