When Can We Expect Our Stimulus Check – The U.S. Treasury and the IRS began direct deposits on Friday, March 12, as part of the third round of stimulus payments signed by President Biden. Deposits will be staggered over the coming weeks, with some scheduled for Wednesday, March 17.
People who didn’t receive two stimulus payments in 2020 ($1,200 first; $600 second) will be able to claim unpaid 2020 taxes. However, to receive the refundable credit for 2020, you must file a tax return – even if people who do not have to submit a tax return.

President Biden signed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan last week, which includes financial aid for people with Social Security numbers: up to $1,400 per person. Couples who apply together will receive $2,800. Families with children will also receive $1,400 per child.

Those eligible for the payment must earn less than $75,000; heads of household, less than $112,000; and $150,000 for couples. Penn Wharton’s budget model estimates that “99 percent of households in the bottom 80 percent of incomes would receive direct aid under Biden’s plan. The average benefit for households in the lowest 40 percent of income would be more than $3,000.

The IRS has launched a website that will allow Americans to track the status of economic stimulus payments approved by Congress to help during the coronavirus pandemic.
More than 80 million Americans should expect to receive stimulus payments in their bank accounts on Wednesday, according to the Treasury Department. The department said the “vast majority” of eligible Americans can expect payments within the next two weeks.
The IRS launched https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment on Wednesday, which allows taxpayers to check payment status, confirm how they want to receive payment (direct deposit or check) and enter their bank account information to make a direct deposit.
For people who, for various reasons, do not file tax returns, there is also an online non-taxpayer portal where you can obtain the information needed to receive payments.

The government started issuing one-off payments this week. Most adults who earned up to $75,000 will receive a payment of $1,200, while married couples who earned up to $150,000 can expect to receive $2,400. Parents will receive a payment of $500 per child. The checks will be directly deposited into bank accounts or sent to households, depending on how you filed your taxes in the past.
The federal government uses information from your 2018 or 2019 tax returns – whichever was most recently filed – to determine eligibility for payments. These payments begin to decrease for adults earning more than $75,000 and phase out completely for those earning more than $99,000. For married couples, the payments are smaller for those earning more than $150,000, dropping to zero at $198,000. For a head of household with one child, the benefit begins to decline at $112,500, then drops to zero at $136,500.

No, the federal government will not send Americans another stimulus check in 2023. Congress would have to pass a new law to authorize a fourth stimulus check, but that didn’t happen.
An IRS spokesperson told VERIFY that no bill has been passed to authorize a fourth stimulus check for 2023. The IRS and U.S. Department of the Treasury websites, which provide information on how people can receive the three previous stimulus payments if they haven’t already, do not they mention a fourth payment.

For Americans to receive another stimulus check, Congress would have to pass legislation authorizing the payment, and President Biden would have to sign it. But that didn’t happen.
“At this time, we have not heard of plans for additional federal stimulus checks in 2023.” – Mark Steber, director of tax information at Jackson Hewitt, told VERIFY.
The previous three stimulus checks were part of legislation passed by Congress and signed by the sitting president. The first $1,200 check was part of the CARES Act passed in March 2020. The second $600 check was part of the spending package passed in December 2020. The third $1,400 check was included in the American Rescue Plan passed in March 2021.
The Inflation Reduction Act, passed by Congress in August 2022, and the government’s fiscal 2023 omnibus spending bill, passed in December 2022, contain no mention of economic impact payments or stimulus checks.

People who were eligible for one of the three original stimulus payments but did not receive at least one can still apply. An IRS spokesperson said you have three years to claim your stimulus payments.
