Nonimmigrant Visa: Live And Work In The United States
The outcome of your US visa will largely depend on the information you fill out on the DS-160. Pay attention to the information you enter on the DS-160. It must be accurate and honest and must match what you say in the visa interview. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT lie in the DS-160. This can result in visa refusal, visa ban or permanent blacklisting.
To start your DS-160 form, visit the US State Department’s Nonimmigrant Visa (DS-160) page.
The question “This visa application will ask you to upload a digital photo of yourself” is only shown for certain countries like Malaysia, Philippines, etc. If you select a country like India, Mexico, etc., this question will not be displayed.
Click the “START AN APPLICATION” button when starting a new DS-160 application. This will generate an application ID, which you must print or annotate. You will need your program ID to retrieve your saved DS-160 program.

Your appointment time will expire if you leave your DS-160 form open for too long. If that happens, you can go back to your saved program (save to last part) using this option.
You may also need time to gather the information needed to complete the DS-160 form. In that case, you can save and return to your saved program using this option. You need a DS-160 program ID to retrieve a saved program.
After entering the above data and clicking on “START APPLICATION”, you will see the “Application Details” screen. “Application ID” will appear here. Print this page. Or take a screenshot or record the DS-160 Application ID. You will need a program ID to retrieve your saved DS-160 program.
Write down “Application ID”, “Security question” and “Answer”. “Security Question and Answer” along with “Application ID”, “Last Name” and “Year of Birth” are required to retrieve your saved DS-160 visa application. If you forget any of this information, you will not be able to restore your saved application. You will have to start over with a new DS-160 program.

You will have 30 days to complete a partially saved DS-160 application. These 30 days are calculated from the last time you changed your application. If you do not complete and submit your DS-160 form within 30 days, your application will be deleted and you will have to start over.
The “Last Names” and “Given Names” fields DO NOT ALLOW commas or special characters. You must enter your name WITHOUT commas or special characters in the “Last Names” and “Given Names” fields. Use the field “Full name in native alphabet” to enter your full name with commas and special characters.
If you have a middle name on your passport (eg: Philippine passport), you must add your middle name to your given name and enter it on the DS-160 “Given Name”.
IMPORTANT: You must fix your passport as soon as possible. It can create all kinds of problems, not only for visa applications but also at the airports. If you move abroad to study or work, you cannot open a bank account, apply for a driver’s license, etc.
How To Fill Ds 160 Form For Us Visa: A Step By Step Guide (with Screenshots)
You may be able to enter your last name and first name completely on the DS-160 form. But in the US visa, the last name and first name fields have a certain character limit and will be truncated if they exceed the character limit.
Even if your name is abbreviated on your US visa, it will not cause any problems with US immigration. US border agents are all aware of this and will not ask you any questions. You may be asked by the airline staff if they don’t know the character limit for the US visa name.
For “TEMP. BUSINESS PLEASURE VISITOR (B)”, you will have 3 options to choose from: B1 (Business), B2 (Tourism) and B1/B2 (Business and Tourism). I recommend choosing “B1/B2” even though your purpose may be purely business or tourism. A US visa is issued for 10 years and you never know when you will need to visit the US for business or tourism. “B1/B2” will work for both purposes and will save you unnecessary questions at the port of entry.
Even if you have selected “B1” or “B2” as your choice, the US Consulate may still issue a “B1/B2”. In rare cases they issue “B1” or “B2”.

Therefore, if you are a female applicant and you don’t see these sections, it means you don’t need to fill these sections. It is normal, no need to worry.
