DuBarry Porcelain de France

DuBarry, makers of Limoges Porcelain de France, has been owned by the same family for the past 46 years. They have, from their beginning, specialized in the making of hand painted boxes as collectibles but are relatively new to the American porcelain scene introducing their boxes here in 1996. Prior to that time they were sold exclusively in Europe and Great Britain where they were, and are now, well known as makers of Limoges boxes.

The DuBarry collection is quite varied but always has included a very large selection of classic boxes, exquisitely painted in the most traditional designs, often based on the original 18th century Sevres and Vincennes patterns. Unlike other makers who limit production on many of their boxes, DuBarry prides themselves on offering continuity in their classics. An example of this is their Premier Egg Box which they have been making for all of their 46 years and which continues to sell even now. It is made in 6 different colors which alone makes this piece unusual.

As well, DuBarry offers a wide selection of figural boxes that are extremely imaginative and beautifully executed. Their new "April in Paris Box,"( found at Wonderful World 4, item P1), is a perfect example of their imaginative design work and their attention to detail. They took a subject, The Eiffel Tower, that has been done and redone dozens of times and turned it into something fresh and appealing. Their Alice in Wonderland group of boxes took The Gift of The Year 2000 award and it demonstrates perfectly what imagination and creativity can do with a very familiar subject, as well. (We do not stock this group but each of the pieces is available by special order.)

DuBarry was chosen by The Prince's Trust, the world renowned charity which is headed by Prince Charles of England, to produce The Mask Boxes; boxes all based on the same concept but each individually designed by world famous celebrities such as Sir Elton John, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sting, Bette Midler, Placido Domingo, Stirling Moss, Paloma Picasso to name just a few of the five hundred masks in the collection. Those you will find at our catalog page "The Mask Boxes."

Over their nearly fifty years of porcelain making DuBarry has changed marks 5 times.
